BIOGRAPHY
A graduate of the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York (investiture May 2010), Cantor Benjamin Rosner brings a dynamic approach to Jewish music and synagogue life.
Prior to attending seminary, Cantor Ben studied classical guitar at the University of Miami. He also plays mandolin, blues harmonica, and doumbek, as well as arranges and composes music. His musical range runs from the most ancient Jewish melodies and cantorial music through Carlebach, Debbie Friedman, modern Israeli music, and the most current of modern Jewish composers, as well as American folk, rock, and pop music of all kinds.
While in Cantorial school, Cantor Ben served as the Cantorial Intern at Temple Beth Rishon in North West Bergen County, New Jersey, where he developed strong ties to the community. He has also visited many synagogues as a guest cantor and performer.
Cantor Ben especially enjoys working with children and sharing his love of Jewish music with them. In addition to his work with synagogue youth, he has especially enjoyed preparing unaffiliated students for their Bnai Mitzvah as a tutor for Door to Door Tutoring. Outside of the cantorate, Cantor Ben enjoys taking photographs, repairing computers, and biking.
Cantor Ben joined the Beth Shalom family in July, 2010. His goal is to infuse music into every part of life at Beth Shalom: through our services, our preschool and religious school, Shabbat meals and Kiddush, teaching of Bar and Bat Mitzvah students, and organizing choirs and musical ensembles.
