BIOGRAPHY
When Rabbi Michael Werbow went off to college to study accounting he never dreamed that by the end of the year he would be making the first of many moves toward his rabbinate. His experiences working with special needs campers at Camp Ramah in New England began his transition into Jewish professional life. After obtaining a degree in special education, Rabbi Werbow moved to Boston in search of a job and a larger Jewish community. He found much more than he could have imagined. Rabbi Werbow’s work as a Youth Director with teens in Lexington, MA was the final sign he needed that he was on the rabbinic track.
Rabbi Werbow’s time in Boston, living in a Jewish co-op, and participating in an organic Jewish community join together with his participation and leadership in the Shtibl Minyan as heavy influences on refining his views of Jewish communal life.
Rabbi Werbow holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education and a Master’s Degree in Jewish Education. He was ordained by the Zeigler School of Rabbinic Studies at the American Jewish University (formerly The University of Judaism). In May of 2006, Rabbi Werbow moved to Pittsburgh to serve as Congregation Beth Shalom’s Assistant Rabbi before he assumed the position of Rabbi in 2009.
In addition to his experiences, Rabbi Werbow’s rabbinate is enhanced by his wonderful wife Melissa, by their beautiful daughter, Maya Tzivya and their adorable new son, Lev Aiden.
