We
want to wish you mazal and joy on the coming occasion which you are now
planning. We at Beth Shalom want to help you in every way possible to make
your Bar or Bat Mitzvah, wedding, bris, or other family celebration as beautiful
as possible.
We
hope that you will celebrate your "simcha" here at Beth Shalom and use our preferred caterers. Please feel free to call our office or e-mail
us if we can be of any assistance to you and your family.
Our facilities are conducted under
the rules of Jewish dietary law. We want to be able to assure your friends
and family, no matter how observant their background might be, that they
are able to eat in our facilities without any hesitation or misgivings.
We are therefore, sharing with you some of the basic rules under which
our facilities function. A representative of Rabbi Stephen E. Steindel,
our mashgiach, will be present in the kitchen and it will be his duty
to see that these rules are carefully observed.
- Our kitchen is a meat facility and, therefore,
no dairy food will be allowed to be brought in.
- All food brought into the kitchen must
be examined by the mashgiach (or his representative) to make certain
that it's contents do not transgress Jewish dietary law.
- All meats, or manufactured or processed
foods, must contain one of the accepted symbols that the food is kosher.
(Meats must be koshered before bringing them to our premises).
- All wines served on our premises, must
be bottled under Rabbinic supervision. (Wine which is produced in Israel
is strongly recommended.)
- All foods must be delivered from a kosher
establishment and cannot be brought from a private home, even though
the home may function under kosher auspices.
- All baked goods must either be prepared
on our premises, or must be baked by a bakery which is under proper
Rabbinic supervision.
- In regard to observing the Sabbath on
our premises, the following conditions must be fulfilled.
- All work must be completed on Friday
afternoon at least one half hour prior to candle lighting time.
- Water used for coffee and tea to
be served on the Sabbath must be completely boiled prior to candle
lighting on Friday.
- Cooking cannot begin on Saturday
evening, until one hour after candle lighting time on the previous
Friday. (Proper adjustments must be made for daylight time).
- An affair may begin one hour after
the completion of the Sabbath day or two hours after the beginning
of candle lighting time on Friday evening.
- During any celebration held on the
Sabbath, activities such as smoking, photography, and instrumental
music, are not allowed. (We hope that you will inform your guests
of these rule so that they will not destroy the Sabbath spirit unwittingly).
If, for any reason, you need to
contact the synagogue the day of the affair, please call the Catering
Department - 412.422.8575. This number answers at all
times. We thank you for your cooperation in maintaining the fine standards
of Beth Shalom. We desire to maintain the respect of the entire community
and that reputation will only enhance the spirit and comfort of your guests.
