Congregation Beth Shalom maintains a place
of public religious worship according to the established usages and customs
of Traditional Judaism, a school of instruction, a communal center to
accommodate cultural and social needs, and a cemetery for the needs of
its families and such others of the Jewish faith as desire its accommodations
The Congregation endeavors to meet the Jewish health, educational, welfare
religious and other human needs, locally, nationally, in Israel and elsewhere
All persons of Jewish faith who are of good character
and reputation professing beliefs in the purpose of this Congregation
shall be eligible for membership. Membership fees shall apply per a schedule established
by the Board of Trustees.
Membership of this Congregation is divided into
seven classes:
- Full Family: A Full Family Membership
consists of nuclear family units limited to parents and their minor
children. Full family members may procure seats in the Faye Rubenstein Weiss Sanctuary.
Full Family Memberships entitles congregant to use the synagogue and
school and cemetery facilities at congregational discount rates.
- Limited Family: A Limited Family
Membership consists of those persons who are members of another congregation
and who only wish to receive congregational mailings and attend synagogue
functions (not including High Holidays services). Limited Family Members
may use synagogue,cemetery and school facilities,but not at congregational
discount rates
- Junior Membership: Consists of
those persons between the ages of 13 and 22. A person between these
ages must have a Junior Membership to qualify for a seat in the Faye Rubenstein Weiss Sanctuary. A Junior Membership shall entitle the person to full use
of the synagogue and all congregational discounts.
- Full Single: A
Full Single Membership consists of those persons 23 years and older
including single parents. Full Single Membership shall be entitled to
full use of all Synagogue and school and cemetery facilities and receive
all congregational discounts including procurement of seats in the Faye Rubenstein Weiss Sanctuary
- Limited Single: A Limited Single
Membership consists of those persons who are members of another congregation
who only wish to receive congregational mailings and attend synagogue
functions (not including high Holiday seats). Limited Single Membership
may use synagogue's cemetery and facilities and schools not at congregational
discount rates.
- Associate: Associate Membership
consists of persons who have been members of the Congregation for a
minimum period of five years and who have removed their residence to
a place more than 100 miles outside the corporate limits of the City
of Pittsburgh. Such members receive all congregational mailings and
a discount for the purchase price of a grave or graves for themselves
or any member of their family.
- First Year: First Year Membership
is available to new rnembers for a period not to exceed one year. The
dues for this membership is based on the age of the new member/s and
on the month they join.
Full Family Members in good standing are entitled
to two seats and Single Full Members and Junior Members to one seat for
the High Holidays. Both Full Family Members and Full Single Members are
entitled to the use of the educational and instructive facilities and
schools of the Congregation and the privileges, convenience and use of
the Synagogue and all other facilities for Bar Mitzah, Bat Mitzvah, and
the marriage of their children. All full members shall be entitled to
the privilege of the purchase of either a single or multiple grave plot
in the Congregation cemetery at a discounted price.
